Objective:Primary central nervous system lymphoma(PCNSL) is an aggressive primary central nervous system tumor and its incidence is increasing. This study was to investigate the clinical features of PCNSL,and analyze prognostic factors for immunocompetent patients with newly diagnosed PCNSL in order to establish a predictive model that could be applied to the care of patients. Methods:We enrolled newly diagnosed, immunocompetent patients with PCNSL treated in our hospital between 2004 and 2008.The clinical characteristics, results of treatment were recorded.Statistic analysis was performed using SPSS16.0 and prognostic factors were analyzed by Log-rank test and Cox regression analysis. Results:There were 27 patients in this series of cases,19 male and 8 female with a mean age of 52 years. The median follow-up of the patients was 16.5 months(2~43months).Nineteen patients had single-locus lesion and 8 multi-locus lesion,88.9%of the patients were diagnosed as having B-cell origin, its main type being diffuse large cell lymphoma. The median survival time was 14 months.Log-rank test showed that the survival time of the patients with KPS≥70 or single-locus lesion or radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy was longer than those KPS<70 or multi-locus lesion or without radiotherapy or chemotherapy.Cox regression analysis revealed that KPS score was only independent prognostic factor(P = 0.034).Conclusions:PCNSL often occurs in middle-aged and aged patients.B-cell lymphoma is the predominant subtype. The paitents were KPS≥70 or single-locus lesion or radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy have a good prognoses.Radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy plays a very important role in comprehensive treatment, combined-modality therapy should be adopted as a regular treatment.
