Background:Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors(MPNSTs) are a rare variety of soft tissue sarcoma of ectomesenchymal origin. It is estimated that MPNSTs take up from 5%to 10%of the soft tissue sarcomas. It could occur in the head or neck, trunk, limbs and other various parts. It is difficult to early diagnosis and postoperative recurrence easily. At present there is more difficulty in the clinical therapy. Here, the etiopathogenisis, the diagnosis, the treatment and the prognosis of MPNSTs will be reviewed.Method:To retrospectively analysis ten cases in our hospital between 2004 to 2008, and to review the literatures on experience in the management of MPNSTs.Conclusion:MPNSTs is a highly aggressive type of soft tissue sarcoma, and it related with neurofibromatosis typeâ… closely. The diagnosis is difficult in clinic and the current diagnosis mainly relies on its pathology, and its immuno-histochemical S-100 positive, and so on.Complete surgical resection of the tumor are the main treatment. Like other soft tissue sarcoma,it is insensitive to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. On account of poor prognosis of this disease and easily to relapse, complete surgical resection of tumor is particularly important.
