Objective: In order to understand the current state of the KAP of the target population in the VⅨItem region, and find out the governors, executors and target populations'evaluation and proposal to the maternity and child hygiene health education work.Methods: Quantitative and qualitative ways were used in this investigation.(1) Quantitative investigation: 36 villages were selected by random cluster sampling in three item provinces of Hunan, Hainan and Guizhou. The target population was investigated by unified training investigators with identical questionnaires. EPIdata3.02 was used to set up database and SAS9.0 was used to statistic data with F test and t test, the tables and diagrams were made by EXECEL and CAD(.2)Qualitative investigation: Focus groups interview method was applied. The target population, governors and executors were separately interviewed with recording.Results:(1)1554 women were investigated in this investigation, and they lived in Hunan(31.51%), Guizhou(35.33%) and Hainan(33.16%); their average age was 29.49±5.22 years old; their nationalities distributed in 9 nationalities, among them 37.06% was minority nationality; 27.22% of them attended primary or under-primary school, 65.96% of them received Junior high school education and 6.81% of them had high school or over-high school literacy. 50 governors, executors and 65 target populations were interviewed.(2)The rate of awareness of the target population was 87.99%.The overwhelming majority considered studying the knowledge of maternity and child hygiene was very important, most of them went to hospital to check after pregnancy and chose hospital to delivery. 89.70% of them took breastfeeding and 91.36% of them always communicated with their children. Target population's age, nationality, family income per capita, standard of culture, attitude of studying the health education knowledge and the evaluation to the local maternity and child hygiene health education work were the influencing factors of the target population'rate of awareness. 96.77% of the target population felt the local health education work was well or better and better developed, and they liked the health education very much. They mostly liked the professional doctors explained the materials face to face, and they hoped the work was carried on better and better and this item would continue in the future.(3) Many ways were measured in health education work and the coverage was broad. The governors and executors believed the VⅨItem promoted the development of the local health education and improved the medical and health service, especially the institutional delivery rate increased greatly. 6 item counties invested much money in health education work and the funds differentiated every county and they all said they would continue the health education work.Conclusion: The rate of awareness of the target population was very high and the Maternity and child hygiene health education work of the VⅨItem improved the target population's knowledge, attitude and practice greatly. Maternity and child hygiene health education work of the VⅨItem was highly praised by the target population, governors and executors. The health education work to the target population should be continued, and the ways, contents of maternity and child hygiene knowledge should be improved.
