Objective1.To investigate the barriers to research utilization about nurses of a general hospital in Hubei province.2.To investigate the barriers to research utilization of the different demographic nurses.3.To explore what differences and commonalities between the findings of this research and those of studies which have been conducted in various countries.4.According to the results, we'll put forward the measures to utilize the nursing production in the clinical practice.MethodsThe sample consists of 316 nurses with one or more years of experience who were randomly selected by cluster sampling from 20 clinical departments (including internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics and operating-room etc). Two questionnaires, barriers to using research in practice developed by America scholar S.G..Funk and the demographic issues, were used to collect the data. And the data was analyzed with SPSS13.0 statistic software. The measurement data--ages and lengths of clinical work were tested with Spearman Pearson collection; and hypotheses were tested with t-test and One-Way ANOVA for the other data to evaluate the differences between groups.Results1.The barriers to utilization were: the factor of innovation is 3.02±0.58, the communication is 2.99±0.52,the organization is 2.86±0.58, the adopter is 2.43±0.59.2.In the 28 items, the highest three barriers were: The nurse does not feel she/he has enough authority to change patient care procedures, The nurse is isolated from knowledgeable colleagues with whom to discuss the research, the reports has not been replicated. And the communication factor had 50% of the highest ten barriers.3.The nurses'ages and lengths of clinical work were positively correlated to the barriers, but the relatively is not very close (r<0.05).4.Nurses who had learned and participated in the nursing research had fewer barriers than those who had not done. There was significant difference of nurses'barriers to research utilization with different educational levels and different departments. The nurses whose educational level was main course reported a lower score than the technical secondary graduate. And the pediatric nurses'score was higher than any other clinical departments'.5.There was no significant difference of nurses'barriers with different professional titles and duties.Conclusions1.The level of the overall barriers to research utilization among clinical nurses was at a moderate level. The four subscales of barriers in ascending sequence were nursing factors, setting factors, communicated factors and innovation factors. It suggests the external factors effect an obvious action.2.It is easier for nurses who have higher educational levels understand and get the researches. So, the high nursing education should be developed pithily to improve the nurses'diathesis and abilities.3.The finding suggests that the managers take actions in allusion to the pediatric nurses'situation.4.It is very important to train the nurses about research courses and research participations. Meanwhile, the managers should pay attention to the use of prompted mechanism, because this is very essential.5.In the top ten barriers, this finding is the same as other similar researches of china and foreign countries, especially the two items"The nurse does not feel she/he has enough authority to change patient care procedures"and"Statistical analyses are not understandable". They almost appear in all findings.
