Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of MRI in juxtaarticular soft-tissue tumor for a reliable imaging basis of preoperative evaluation of benign or malignant tumor and the best treatment programs. Methods PHILIPS 0.5T Magnetic resonance scanner.61cases of juxtaarticular soft-tissue tumors with pathologic confirmation underwent routine MRI to obtain axial, sagittal and coronal images. pathological changes with fat need to add fat suppression sequence.16 cases to inject Gd-DTPA (0.2ml/kg) underwent enhanced scan. We compare accuracy between MR and pathology diagnosis in the benign and malignant tumors and estimate the specificity and sensitivity of MR diagnosis. We analyze the boundary, size, signal uniformity, edema, and violations of adjacent structures of benign and malignant tumors in chi-square test of inter-group, to evaluate the diagnostic and histological origin value of MRI.Results No significant different existed in MR and pathological diagnosis of the 61 cases (P>0.05). the specificity and sensitivity of benign tomors are high values. No significant different existed in the boundary, size(5cm)and signal uniformity of benign and malignant tumors(P>0.05).A significant difference existed in edema, size(10cm)and violations of adjacent structures of benign and malignant tumors(P<0.05).Some tumors have their specific MR performance which is helpful of confirming histological origin. Conclusion MRI is reliable in juxtaarticular soft-tissue tumor. The signs of edema, size(10cm)and violations of adjacent structures are useful for differential diagnosis of juxtaarticular soft-tissue tumor. MR distinctly show location, shape, size, signal intensity and violations of adjacent structures of juxtaarticular soft-tissue tumors and some benign tumor can confirm histological origin. But it has certain limitation in the definite diagnosis of tumors with malignant soft-tissue tumors′histological origin. In a word, MR contribute to diagnosis and differential diagnosis of juxtaarticular soft-tissue tumor, but there are limits.
