Objective:To investigate the expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1) in renal tissue of Patients with the primary chronic renal disease and their relationship with clinical manifestation. Methods:The expression of ICAM-1 in 7 renal biopsy specimens of patients with focal proliferative glomerulonephritis,6 specimens of patients with membranous nephropathy,6 specimens of patients with membranoproliferative nephritis,8 specimens of patients with minimal change glomerulonephritis,8 specimens of patients with mesangial proliferative nephritis were detected by immunohistochemical stains. We also examinated the relationship between the expression of ICAM-1 in renal tissue and possible associated clinical datas.Results:1)there is very few expression of ICAM-1 in nomal glomeruli and renal tubular-interstitial.Compared with the normal control group,it is significantly higher that the expression of ICAM-1 in renal biopsy specimens with focal proliferative glomerulonephritis group, membranous nephropathy group, membranoproliferative nephritis group, minimal change glomerulonephritis group, and mesangial proliferative nephritis group(P<0.01). 2)There are no significantly differences of expression of ICAM-1 in renal biopsy specirnens with focal proliferative glomeruionephritis group, membranous nephropathy group, membranoproliferative nephritis group, minimal change glomerulonephritis group, and mesangial proliferative nephritis group(P>0.05).3)In focal proliferative glomerulonephritis group, membranous nephropathy group and membranoproliferative nephritis group, the expression of ICAM-1 in renal tissue are collection with the TMP of the patients. Conclusion:This study has demonstrated that the overexpression of ICAM-1 in the renal tissue of human primary chronic renal disease. The more severity of renal injury, the more increasing of the expression of ICAM-1.Changes in renal ICAM-1 occur in progressive primary chronic renal diseases in humans independently of the original etiology.ICAM-1 may therefore play a role in the pathogenesis of renal fibrosis in patients with CKD and can therefore be considered a potential therapeutic target. In focal proliferative glomerulonephritis group, membranous nephropathy group and membranoproliferative nephritis group,ICAM-1 staining correlated with urinary protein excretion. The urinary protein excretion can be used to estimate the development of primary chronic kidney disease.
