The plant Catharanthus roseus(L.) G.Don belongs to the genus Catharanthus in family Apocynaceae. Many alkaloids including vinblastine and vincristine had been isolated from Catharanthus roseus.Catharanthus alkaloids were often used to treat acute lymphoblastic leukemia,Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. However, the severe side effects such as neurotoxic and tissue damage have limited their clinical applications. In order to search for high effective and low toxic compounds,we studied the chemical constituents of Catharanthus roseus.21 compounds were isolated from the plant and 15 compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. These compounds were identified as roseine A(CR-I),roseine B(CR-2),roseine C(CR-3), roseine D(CR-4),roseine E(CR-5),tetrahydroalstonine(CR-6),ajmalicine(CR-7), vindorosine(CR-8),4-deacetylvindoline(CR-9),(-)-lochnericine(CR-10), pseudotabersonine(CR-11),(-)-coronaridin(CR-12),leurosidine(CR-13), vinamidine(CR-14) and cycloleurosine(CR-15).Among them,CR-1~CR-5 are new compounds.
