ObjectiveTo explore the incidence rate of depression in elderly between the elderly living at home and living in senior center nursing home in Beijing, and especially focus on the relationship between all relevant factors of the elderly living in nursing home and depression in elderly. At the same time,we also detect the EEG information from the elderly to study whether there is a difference in EEG between the normal elderly and those suffering from depression.Methods1.A questionnaire survey was adopted to investigate the general information in some communities of Beijing and senior center nursing home. The questionnaire included gender, age, marital status, educational level, occupation, etc. And we also investigate the individual status and TCM syndrome differentiation of the elderly living in nursing home.2.24-item HAMD was conducted on investigation objects to determine the incidence rate of depression in elderly under different living conditions in Beijing.3.We cinducted the EEG of the group in the senior center nursing home, and analysed the EEG data as well.Results1.In the group of the elderly living at home,356 subjects were in the range of 60~79 years old, whose average age is 67.6±9.4,the overall incidence rate is 10.7%,of which mild and moderate depression is 7.6%,severe is 3.1%,and gender makes no obviously difference; In the group of senior center nursing home,171 subjects were in the range of 60~95 years old, whose average age is 69.9±5.7,the overall incidence rate is 37.5%,of which mild and moderate depression is 36.3%, severe is 1.2%,and gender also makes no obviously difference.2.In the group of senior center nursing home, the living time(unit:months) of depression in elderly is 23.1±16.5,non-depressed senior old persons is 22.3±16.1, P>0.05 by the T-test,there was was not statistically significant difference, but the incidence rate of those who lived less than one year is less than those who lived more than one year. From the perspective of character, the highest incidence of depression is introversion, followed by the mixed type, the minimum is extroversion. Multi-regression analysis showed that introversion, people with stroke, poor living environment, poor health self-rating are risk factors of depression in elderly. The proportion of liver qi stagnancy in TCM syndrome differentiation is the highest in the senior depression, and the second is the style of disharmony between the heart and kidney.3.The HAMD score of the group living at home is 16.17±4.98,while the group living in nursing home is 18.48±5.47.There are significant differences in sleep disturbance and retardarce between depressed and non-depressed seniors with the analysis of seven factors of HAMD.4.In the EEG,the frequency of slow-waveδandθof depressed seniors is higher than those of normal elderly, and the difference ofδwave is more statistically. The changes of fast-wave shows that the power and frequency is lower, and based mainly onα-wave,α1-wave in particular.ConclusionsThe incidence of depression of the elderly living in senior center nursing home was significantly higher than those living at home, which is related to introversion, people with stroke, poor living environment and poor health self-rating.The proportion of liver qi stagnancy in TCM syndrome differentiation is highest, and the second is the style of disharmony between the heart and kidney. From the perspective of EEG analysis, the depressed elderly mainly showed that there exist an increase of slow-wave and reduce of fast-wave.
