Objective : To study the expression of of HSP70,MT and NSE in olfactory epithelium of patients with chronic sinusitis,to discuses the protective action of HSP70 and MT in olfactory epithelium. Methods: Sixty-four patients underwent FESS in our hospital. Before operating, their olfactory functions were examined by CCCRC. According to their CCCRC scores, they were distributed three groups. Group A:The patients with deviation of nasal septum and a normal olfactory function(n=11).Group B: The chronic sinusitis patients without dysosmia(n=31).Group C: The chronic sinusitis patients with anosmia (n=22). All of the olfactory epithelium tissue were examined with immunohistochemical method, using monoclonal antibodies of HSP70,MT and NSE.Then, the olfactory functions of the Group C patients by FESS were examined with CCCRC at Six months after surgery. Results:The normal olfactory epithelium had a compact three-layer structure. The structure of olfactory epithelium in the Group B only had slight changed in histopathology. However,The olfactory epithelium of the Group C obviously became thinnest and mostly had lost the normal structure. The expression of HSP70 and MT in Group B were stronger than Group A and Group C,but no obvious discrepancy occured between Group A and Group C (A&B:P<0.05; A&C: P>0.05; B&C:P<0.05).The expression of NSE in Group A and Group B was stronger than Group C,but no obvious discrepancy occured between Group A and Group B (A&B:P>0.05; A&C:P<0.05; B&C:P<0.05).The expression of of HSP70,MT and NSE in olfactory epithelium of Group C was imatate correlation to each other. Moreover, the recovery degree of postoperative olfactory function in Group C patients was positive correlation with the preoperative expression of of HSP70,MT and NSE in olfactory epithelium. Conclusion: Frist,The structure of olfactory epithelium in the chronic sinusitis patients without dysosmia only had slight changed in histopathology. However,The olfactory epithelium of the chronic sinusitis patients with anosmia became thinnest obvious and mostly had lost the normal structure. However, damage obviously.Second, the number of ORNS distinctly reduced in the patient suffering from dysosmia caused by chronic sinusitis, and the recovery degree of postoperative the olfactory function was correlate with the damage extent of ORNS.Three, the cell protective protein HSP70 and MT were obviously decrease in the olfactory epithelium of the chronic sinusitis patients with anosmia. And these may cause indrectly the histopathology serious damage, then leading to dysosmia.Four,HSP70 and MT may have play a significant role in the recovery of postoperative the olfactory function of the chronic sinusitis patients with anosmia.
