Primary hepatic carcinoma, most of which is complicated with cirrhosis and hepatic inadequacy,is characterized as high malignancy degree, easy to metastasis and relapse, which makes it hard to be discovered at early stage and difficult to be treated with satisfied effect. In recent years, with the development of non-operative treatment, hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)'s therapeutic effect is increasingly improved.Tough Operation is still the first line therapy for HCC,70%of the patients have lose the chance when the final diagnosis was made.Non-operative treatment, including radiotherapy, and combined therapy have drawn more and more attention.HCC have good radiobiology basis, however, owing to the limitation of radiotherapy technology itself and the cognitive limitation about the radiotolerance of normal liver tissue to this therapy, the effect of radiotherapy in the treatment of HCC have never been fully displayed after deny and affirmation which repeated many times. With the development of exact radiotherapy technology and the enhancement of consciousness about combined therapy for tumors, the position of radiotherapy in the treatment of HCC is finally confirmed.Exact radiotherapy with three dimensional radiotherapy(3DRCT) as the mainstream can give consideration to both tumor control probability(TCP) and normal tissue complication probability(NTCP),which make it possible to raise the radiotolerance of tumor tissue and improve the therapeutic effect. In addition, the combinations of radiotherapy with other treatment means have shown good synergistic effect. This review will focus on the effect of radiotherapy in the treatment of HCC,the development of exact radiotherapy technology, the application of radiotherapy in HCC,and the curative effect of radiotherapy combined with other methods.
