Objective To investigate the expression of S100A9 protein in normal ovarian tissues, benign epithelia ovarianl tumors tissues and primary epithelial ovarian carcinoma and to study its relationship with biological behavior of primary epithelial ovarian carcinoma.Methods Using tissue array technology and immunohistochemistry analysis,the expression of S100A9 was analyzed in 63 primary epithelial ovarian carcinoma tissues, 20 benign epithelial ovarian tumor tissues and 22 normal ovarian tissues.Analyse the relationship between the expression of S100A9 in primary epithelial ovarian carcinoma and clinical pathology stage(FIGO,2000),the degree of differentiation,the type of pathology,metastasis of lymph nodes and greater omentum,ascitic fluid,the parts of cancer genesis and the age of onset.The semiquantitative datas were analyzed by t-test, which were analyzed by SPSS11.5 and the significant size of test of this study was validated as value of 0.05.Results The expression of S100A9 in primary epithelial ovarian carcinoma tissues was significantly higher than in normal ovarian tissues and benign epithelial ovarian tumors tissues(P<0.05).Especially,it was significantly higher in the cases ofⅢ~Ⅳstage of epithelial ovarian carcinoma,lower differentiation and metastasis of greater omentum, compared with control groups,the difference had statistical significance(P<0.05). Oppositely,it was not associated with the type of pathology,ascitic fluid and the metastasis of lymph nodes(P>0.05).S100A9 located in cytoplasm except 20 cases.Conclusion These findings indicate that S100A9 may take part in the pathogenesis, development and metastasis of epithelial ovarian carcinoma.The expression of S100A9, together with other indexes,may be a valuable marker for earlier diagnosis,detection and prognosis of ovarian tumors.
