Objective:Detection the activity of Na~+K~+-ATPase and the levels of MDA in velopharyngeal muscular in patients who with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome compared to patients who with no OSAHS.We discussion the relationship between MDA and Na~+K~+-ATPase activity in velopharyngeal muscle in OSAHS in order to explore if changes in the active of enzymes and oxidative damage play some roles and significance in the pathogenesis of OSAHS's.Methods:Spectrophotometer was performed in 23 OSAHS patients(experimental group OSAHS group) and 13 patients with no OSAHS(control group).Na~+K~+-ATPase activity in velopharyngeal muscle were measured by using the colorimetric determination of phosphorus.MDA in velopharyngeal muscle were measured by using measurement of thiobarbituric.Observe the changes of the Na~+K~+-ATPase activity and bMDA levels in velopharyngeal muscle tissues in the two groups of patients.Statistical analysis of the data come to the conclusion. At the same time testing their height, weight, fasting blood glucose, lowest oxygen saturation, sleep apnea-hypopnea index, uric acid, and calculating body mass index(BMI) and analysising their correlation.Results:Na~+K~+-ATPase activity in velopharyngeal muscle in OSAHS group(6.61±1.97 U/mgprot) was significantly lower than the control group(13.02±5.33U/mgprot, P<0.05 ).MDA levels in velopharyngeal muscle in OSAHS group(2.9±2.82nmol/mgprot) were significantly higher than the control group(1.13±0.74 nmol/mgprot, P<0.05).There was a significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05). Conclusion:Na~+K~+-ATPase activity in velopharyngeai muscle in OSAHS group was significantly lower than the control group.MDA levels in velopharyngeal muscle in OSAHS group were significantly higher than the control group. There was a significant difference between the two groups. The changes of Na~+K~+-ATPase activity and MDA levels in velopharyngeal muscle with patients of OSAHS were significantly. The mechanism were closely related to the energy metabolism and hypoxic injury smechanism caused by OSAHS.Thus Na~+K~+-ATPase,MDA may play important roles in the occurrence and development of OSAHS.Na~+K~+-ATPase activity,MDA levels of the velopharyngeal muscle in OSAHS patients have relationship to maintain the upper airway patency. It was important to elucidate the pathogenesis of OSAHS and prevent the disease.
