The Expression Of S100A4, CD44v6 And VEGF-C In Gastric Adenocarcinoma And Its Clinical Significance

Objective Gastric cancer is one of the most frequent malignancies in china.Its occurrence,development,invasion and metastasis involve multiple genes and factors. Here we detected the expression of S100A4,a small calciumbinding protein,CD44v6, an important adhesion molecule,and VEGF-C,the specific growth factor of lymphatic vessels in gastric adenocarcinomas and normal gastric tissues in order to support the diagnosis and therapy of gastric adenocarcinoma which may have lymphatic me- tastasis.Method 60 cases of gastric adenocarcinoma and 15 cases of normal gastric tissues were examined with immunohistochemistry.Results The positive rates of S100A4,CD44v6 and VEGF-C expression were higher in gastric adenocar-cinoma tissues than in normal gastric tissues(P＜0.05,P＜0.001,P＜0.001,respectively).The expressions of S100A4,CD44v6 and VEGF-C were all higher in those which have lymphatic metastasis than those without lymphatic metastasis(P＜0.05).Also,their expressions were all related to the clinical stage(P＜0.05),and the level of their expressions increased with the clinical stage progressing (P＜0.05).Their expression were not related to the age,size,differentiation(P＞0.05). There are positive correlations between the expressions of S100A4,CD44v6 or VEGF-C(P＜0.001) Conclusions This study implies that S100A4,CD44v6 and VEGF-C are selectively expressed in gastric adenocarcinoma tissues rather than in normal gastric tissues,so S100A4,CD44v6 and VEGF-C are related to the genesis and progression of gastric adenocarcinoma.Furthermore,S100A4,CD44v6 and VEGF-C are related to the lymphatic metastasis and clinical stage.Therefore,they are thought to play an important role in the process of lymphatic metastasis and clinical progression.The expression of S100A4,CD44v6 and VEGF-C are correlated with each other in gastric adenocarcinoma,they facilitate the lymphatic metastasis of gastric adenocarcinoma in coordination with each other.To investigate the expression of S100A4,CD44v6 and VEGF-C may support the diagnosis and therapy of the gastric adenocarcinoma which has lymphatic metastasis.
