Objective To investigate the expression and the clinical significance of the vascular endothelial cell growth factor(VEGF) in the thyroid papillary carcinoma. Methods The immunohistochemical was used to detect VEGF in 45 patients with thyroid papillary carcinoma(25 among them taken place lymph node metastasis) and 20 patients normal thyroid tissue and to analyze the relationship between VEGF and the thyroid papillary carcinoma occurrence, metastasis, prognosis.Result The positive rate of VEGF in the thyroid papillary carcinoma was higher than normal thyroid tissue,84.44%vs10.00%,p<0.01.The positive rate of stageⅢ&Ⅳgroups increased than stageⅠ,95.65%vs.63.63%(p<0.05).At the same time, the positive rate of VEGF was 86.48%in Conventional PTC,75%in Tall-cell PTC and Follicular variant PTC.There was no difference between those group(p>0.05).The positive rate of VEGF in lymph node metastasis group increased compared without lymph node metastasis group,96.00%vs 70.00%.(p<0.05).Conclusion The expression of VEGF in PTC is far higher than that of normal thyroid tissue. In different stage, the more advanced, the more positive rate has.The positive rate of VEGF in lymph node metastasis group is higher than that without lymph node metastasis group. The VEGF may be as the index to judge the genesis, the progression and the prognosis of PTC.
