| The correction of cleft lip nasal deformity is one of important points that people pay greatest attention to most in the cleft and palate sequence medical treatment. ePTFE is a kind of soft polymer tissue filling material. It was first used as artificial blood vessel in clinical practice and won success. ePTFE has been used in nose cosmetic surgery and cleft lip nasal deformity surgery in China for almost ten years. Therefore, systematic and comprehensive review on ePTFE's application in cleft lip nasal deformity surgery is valuable in clinic. The review deeply discusses and explores ePTFE's application in nose cosmetic surgery, which is expected to be helpful in clinical practice.The review analyses the pathologic mechanism of cleft lip nasal deformity, the traits of anatomy, the surgical history of cleft lip nasal deformity, the characteristics of ePTFE, ePTFE's application in nose plastic surgery and cleft lip nasal deformity srugery, its related complications and management, cautions, and prospects. It also stresses ePTFE's prospect in application in cleft lip nasal deformity surgery.ePTFE has good tissue accommodation in cleft lip nasal deformity surgery. Its physic traits are similar to those of human soft tissue and the rate of infection and exposure is low. Compared with silicone material, this material has certain obvious advantages. It is readily available in suitable sizes and can be carved to different sizes and shapes to compensate for deficiencies in the projection of nasal alar, tip of nose, nasal columella and nasal base. It can not be absorbed by the tissue and moved in postoperation. It has long-term satisfactory effect. However, some problems still exist including how to make a balance between increasing quick stability of ePTFE in a short time and easy extract and how to increase height and elongate nasotip with ePTFE. These problems need further exploration.
