spinal cord injury which is often followed with disfunction cuts off major passageways between CNS and PNS. complete SCI or imcomplete SCI shows chydermoperiostosis acroparalysis or tetraplegia. The character of CNS which has complicated anatomic structrue and impossible regeneration decides that research on SCI is a hard task. Ever since a long time, People always think that mammals'CNS can not regenerate, But results come from the latest neurobological research indicate that CNS of mammals reshape endlessly in phyleophebic and remain responsibility to signals which promote cell survival and anagenesis. SCI in animal models can be recovered in morphous and function partly if we use proper therapies.Since NGFs were discovered by human, Over 10 kinds of NGFs were proved to be useful to growth, development, regeneration and sustaining survivals of neurocytes in CNS and PNS. As a member in NGFs, IGF-1 is a 7649Da single strand protein which is consist of 70 amino acids. It has important regulative effects on hyperplasia, differentiation, apoptosis, growth, development of neurocytes. The investigations in past few years indicate that IGF-1can promote recovery of SCI by systematic or local application. Most existant reports about IGF-1 focus on therapy in diabetes, tumor, and so on, But reports on effect of IGF-1 on SCI is less relatively. In this experiment, we observe motor function of rats who were given local application of IGF-1 and expression of GDNF in section of SCI at different times(6,12,24,48h) during acute SCI period. The results indicate that IGF-1 can promote recovery of motor function of limbs, change the micro-environment of section of SCI and enhance the expression of GDNF in damaged spinal cord. It may be one of mechanism of reparation of SCI.
