Objective To investigate the CD24 gene expression on invasive and noninvasive renal cell carcinomas, analyze the significance in foreseeing the prognosis, and to discuss the the relation between CD24 gene expression and the invasion and meatstasis with prognosis of renal cell cancers. Methods Collect the data of 45patients with renal cell carcinomas in the urology department of Wuhan Union Hospital of Tongji medical cellege,Huazhong University of Science and Technology. 21 patients diagnosed as invasive tumors and 24 patients diagnosed as noninvasive tumors. The operation specimens were colored with immunochemistry(S-P).Following the patients for tumor recurrence, symptoms'improvement after 3 years of opertion.Synthesized and related the data with CD24 gene expression. Results Among the 24 patients with noninvasive kidney cancers there were 16 of them whose CD24 gene expression present"+++",4 patients present"++",3 patients present"+"and only 1 present"-". Among the 21 patients with invasive renal carcinoma there were 3 patients present"-",10 patients present present"+", 8 patients presents present"++", and no one present"+++". The CD24 gene expression on the invasive renal cell tumor was significantly higher than that on noninvasive renal cell carcinoma(P<0.01). In the patients with high CD24 gene expression(+++/++) 1 of them were thought as"good prognosis", 9 of them as"common prognosis"and 7of them as"bad prognosis". In the patients with low CD24gene expression 17 occurred as"good prognosis",6 of them as"common prognosis"and 5 of them as"bad prognosis". The prognosis of patients with low CD24 gene expression was significantly worse than that of patients with high CD24 gene expression(P<0.01).Conclusion The high gene expression was considered as the index of invasion and meatastasis of the renal cell carcinoma. The idfferent expression of CD24 gene was thought as the assistant index to evaluate the prognosis of patients with renal cell carcinomas.CD24 gene might function in the process of tumorigenesis, development and metastasis.
