Objective:To summarize the experience of management for primary retroperitoneal tumor(PRPT) and to analyze the factors influencing the outcome after operation. Methods:The data of 200 cases of primary retropefitoneal tumor(PRPT) in Cancer hospital of Fudan university from Jan 1st 1990 to Dec 30ed 2005 were reviewed retrospectively.Software tools for statistical analysis:SPSS 15.0.The single factor analysis and multi factor analysis to investigate the selected indicators for clinical use.Results:200 cases of PRPT were surgically treated. There were 95 male and 105 female in patients. The age rage of patients was from 11 years old to 77 years old.the mean age was 49.90±14.96.Among them,158(79%) were malignant and 42(21%) benign. The compeleted resection rate is 64.5%.163 cases were followed up.The rate is 81.5%,the middle followed-up time is 40 months.49 patients were died. The 1-year, 5-year,and 10-year survival rates in the patients subject to malignant PRT were 79.9 %,64.8%and 51.3%.That in complete resection patients was 91%,75.6%and 62.1 %respectively and that in incomplete resection patients was 69.8%and 19.8% (P<0.05).The Cox multi-various regression analysis revealed showed completeness of tumor resection, age and recurrence time were associated closely with local recurrence. There were 59 liposarcoma in 200 PRT patients.26 patients were male and other 33 patients were female. The rate of sex was 1:1.6.the age rage was from 20 years old to 75 years old.the completed resection rate of liposarcoma was 76.27%.the rate of multiorgan resection was 32.20%.The 5-year,and 10-year survival rate in the complete resection patients subject to liposarcoma was 88%and 71.1%.That in incomplete resection patients was 70%and 42%(P<0.05).The Cox multi-various regression analysis revealed showed completeness of tumor resection and the size of tumor were associated closely with local recurrence.Conclusion:1,The clinical manifestations of primary retroperitoneal tumor(PRPT) were found hardly. Many patients have abdominal mass and pain. 2,Complete tumor resection, age and recurrence time play important roles in recurrence and survival of PRT.3,The survival rate, completed resection and the rate of multiorgan resection are better than that in the last 20 years.4,The completed resection rate of primary retroperitoneal liposarcoma is 76.27% and the rate of patients underwent multiorgan resection was 32.20%.the 5-year and 10-year survival rate is 88%and 71.1%.5,The multiorgan resection plays important roles for reduced recurrence and survival of primary retroperitoneal liporsacarcoma.6,Compeleted resection and size of tumour are the important roles in the survival of the primary retroperitoneal liposarcoma.
