Objective To evaluate the difference and correlation of glucose measurements between capillary whole blood glucose and venous plasma glucose on fasting in Qingdao, and to evaluate the capillary whole blood glucose with relative operating characteristic curve. Methods 3647 residents above twenty-six were questioned and measured by multi-stage cluster random sampling in the six districts of Qingdao.Vein blood was taken out to measure the sugar values,at the same time, the capillary whole blood was sampled from the fingertip by glucose monitor. The data obtained were then analyzed with statistical means. Results The average level of capillary whole blood glucose(6.20±2.05 mmol/l) was less than venous plasma glucose(6.31±2.35 mmol/l,and there was significant difference in the level of blood glucose between them(t'=6.04,P<0.01).The relevant differences between venous plasma glucose and capillary whole blood glucose were less than 7%.Prevalence rate of diabetes mellitus was 17.5%and 18.9%respectively, there was no significant difference between them(P>0.05).The correlation coefficients between venous plasma glucose and capillary whole blood glucose was 0.860.When critical value of capillary whole blood glucose was 6.85mmol/l,the area below ROC curve was 0.899,sensitivity and specificity were 76.8%and 93.4% respectively, false positive proportion was 23.2%,false negitive proportion was 6.6%, positive predictive value was 69.3%,negative predictive value was 95.4%,positive likelihood ratio was 11.63,negitive likelihood ratio was 0.248,Youden index was 0.702.Conclusions Glucose monitor showed very good repeatability.Capillary whole blood glucose have good concordance with venous plasma glucose, but venous plasma glucose could not diagnose diabetes mellitus instead by capillary whole blood glucose.Glucose monitor has more cut off-values for the diabetes.
