Objective:The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of orthodontic treatment with first molar extraction. Methods:10 cases treated with first molar extraction were chosen from the Department of Stomatology, of our hospital during 2004 to 2006. The 10 cases were recalled periodically. The patients were aged 14 years to 32. 5 years (mean age 23. 2 years ). 5 cases were extraction one first molar, 3 cases were extraction two first molars, 1 cases were extraction three first molars,1 cases were extraction four first molars. Straight wire appliances were applied in these treatments. Status of first molar space closure, tooth alignment, occlusal relationship, soft tissue lateral profile after treatment were evaluated. Results:The average duration of orthodontic treatment was 25.1months. Normal overjet and overbite were achieved. Good occlusal relationship and soft tissue profile were established after treatment. Conclusion:The first molar extraction cases could be treated orthodontically with satisfactory results after careful anchorage design and clinical operation.
