Effects Of Benidipine On Blood Pressure, Hs-CRP And Insulin Resistance In Patients With Essential Hypertension

Objective:To study the effects of benidipine on blood pressure, hs-CRP and insulin resistance in patients with essential hypertension and to explore its mechanism.Methods:Thirty-three patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension administed benidipine were divided into two groups by body mass index(BMI):15 obese patients with EH and BMI≥25 and 22 non-obese patients with EH and BMI＜25.Twenty health people were selected as control group.Blood pressure(BP),height,weight,the fasting blood sugar(FBS),triglyceride,cholesterol,high density lipoprotein -cholesterol(HDL-C),low density lipoprotein-cholesterol(LDL-C), fasting insulin(FIN)and hs-CRP levels were measured in all subjects. Insulin resistance was evaluated by insulin sensitivity index(ISI).The levels of hs-CRP were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).Results:(1)After 8 weeks of therapy with Benidipine,the blood pressure of EH patients significantly decreased(P＜0.05).The total effective rate was 90.91%.No serious side-effect was observed during the treatment.(2)After 8-week of treatment,the FIN,ISI and hs-CRP levels of the EH patients were improved significantly(P＜0.05).(3)Compared with pre-treatment,the insulin sensitivity of EH non-obese group ameliorated considerably(P＜0.05),while no significant improvement was found on the EH obese patients(P＞0.05).(4)There was a positive correlation between hs-CRP and systolic pressure(SBP)(r=0.502, P=0.003),as well as between hs-CRP and pulse pressure(PP)(r=0.420, P=0.015).But no correlation was found between hs-CRP and diastolic pressure(DBP)(r=-0.153,P=0.397).Between hs-CRP and ISI,a negative correlation was found(r=-0.529,P=0.001).Conclusion:(1)Benidipine are safe and effective treatment options in patients with mild-to-moderate EH.(2)Benidipine can decrease serum levels of hs-CRP in EH patients.(3)Benidipine can improve insulin sensitivity in non-obese EH patients,but not in obese EH patients.(4) There was a correlation between serum hs-CRP levels and SBP,PP and ISI.
