| Objective:To evaluate the clinical effects of Kushen injection in prevention of acute radiation proctitis.Methods:Eighty-nine patients with cervical carcinoma were randomized into two groups,from June 2006 to October 2007,46 cases were treated with Kushen injection combined with radiotherapy in compounded group and the remained 43 cases treated with radiotherapy only.All patients in the two groups received radical radiotherapy.10 MVX ray was used for external radiation with a total dose of 30Gy;then the middle field is shielded by lead,continuous radiotherapy to total dose of 55Gy;192Ir high-dose-rate after loading unit was used for branchytherapy after 3 weeks of external radiotherapy at the dose of 5Gy in A point per time for total 7 times,1 time/week.In compounded group,Kushen injection was used with 20ml venously in 60 minites and radiotherapy was performed in 25 minutes,one time per day from Monday to Firday.When the patients suffered from Acute Radiation Proctitis of gradeâ…¡,mixed solution consisted of 40ml normal saline,6.0g Smecta,10mg Dexamethasone Acetat Injection,240,000U Gentamycin Sulfate,and 500ug VitaminB12were given via retention enema,two times per day for ten days.Results:â… ,â…¡grade of acute radiation poctitis were noted in 5/46 and 2/46 respectively in compounded group,there was no acute radiation proctitis of gradeâ…¢. In contast,the gradeâ… ,â…¡andâ…¢of acute radiation poctitis were15/43,13/43 and 2/43 respectively in single radiotherapy group,,there was a significant difference between two groups(P＜0.01).The time to complete radiotherapy in compounded group and single radiotherapy group were 45.4 day and 50.1 day respectively,P＜0.05.Three months after radiotherapy the effective rate in both groups were 84.4%and 72.1% respectively,showing no significant difference(P＞0.05).Conclusion:Kushen injection has clinical effect for prevention of acute radiation proctitis,at the same time,not affect curative effect.
