Objective To evaluate the clinical value of MR diffusion-weighted imaging(DWI) in primary glomerulonephritis and to explore the clinical value of apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)to evaluate renal function in primary glomerulonephritis patients. Methods DWI of kidneys was performed in 31 patients of primary glomerulonephritis and 28 healthy volunteers. The ADC value of kidney was measured, and the renal function of patients with primary glomerulonephritis were examined. Then the patients were divided into 2 groups by serum creatinine(Scr) (normal and abnormal).Differences of the mean ADCs in the 3 groups, and the correlation between the renal ADC value and Scr were analyzed. Results ADC values of the 3 groups wereⅠgroup:2.670±0.097,2.415±0.133,2.193±0.079,2.081±0.074,1.903±0.047×10-3mm2/s;Ⅱgroup:2.469±0.099,2.259±0.104,2.081±0.050,2.007±0.075,1.821±0.052×10-3mm2/s;Ⅲgroup2.391±0.096,2.021±0.112,1.909±0.088,1.728±0.113,1.634±0.097×10-3 mm2/s when b value was 300,600,900,1200,1500 s/mm2.There was statistically significant difference in renal ADCs among the 3 groups. The ADC values of primary glomerulonephritis kidneys were significantly lower than that of healthy volunteers (P<0.05).And the ADC values of Scr increased group were lower than that of the nomal Scr group(P<0.05).There was significant linear correlation between the renal ADC and Scr value when b value was 1200 s/mm2and 1500 s/mm2.Conclusion DWI shows great clinical value in patients with primary glomerulonephritis and ADC value can evaluate renal function in primary glomerulonephritis patients.
