Objective To compare the biomechanical properties in the Schatzker-Ⅰtibial plateau fracture model stablized either by the new adjustable stud or by the lag screw.Method A Schatzker-Ⅰtibial plateau fracture was created in 6 pairs of adult human cadaver tibiae divided into 2 groups to make sure each group include 3 left and 3 right tibiae.Group A(n=6)was stablized by the new adjustable stud.Group B received the fixation by the lag screw. The plastic deflection was measured at three levels of vertical pressure(400N,600N,800N)Result There was significant difference between two fixation method for average plastic deflection at each level of vertical pressure (400N P<0.01 600N P<0.01 800N P<0.01).The bone mineral density showed no significant correlation to the vertical subsidence for group A(400N |r| = 0.9317 600N |r|= 0.9469 800N |r|= 0.9190)while group B(600N |r|= 0.9695>0.95 800N |r|= 0.9633>0.95)showed a significant negative correlation at two levels of pressure. Conclusion New adjustable stud is a new kind of method for the therapy of Schatzker-Ⅰtibial plateau fracture and may be more helpful to the patients with osteoporosis.
