Objective: Examine the expression of matrix metalloproteinases-1 and matrix metalloproteinases-9 in human chronic venous insufficiency, and learn the role of MMP-1,MMP-9 during vascular remodeling in chronic venous insufficiency. Methods:Research on 80 patients with chronic venous insufficiency cases and 20 cases of the control group patients,we used immunohistochemical method analyzed the MMP-1,MMP-9 expression in tissues from great saphenous vein, and the expression of MMP-1,MMP-9 messenger RNA was determined by Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) method. Results: (1) The expressions of MMP-1 protein and mRNA in control group were significantly lower than those in mild, moderate and severe CVI group (P<0.001).(2) The expressions of MMP-9 protein and mRNA in mild, moderate and severe CVI group were significantly higher than those in control group (P<0.001).(3) The expressions of MMP-9 mRNA in severe CVI group were significantly higher than those in the other two CVI groups(P<0.001)Conclusion:(1) MMP-1, MMP-9 may participate in the regulation of Chronic venous insufficiency vascular remodeling.(2) The expressions of MMP-1, MMP-9 in the normal control group was significantly different with those in mild, moderate and severe CVI group.(3) The expression of MMP-9 was increased exponentially with the clinical severity, suggested that MMP-9 may be used as a standard to assess the clinical severity.
