Objective:To exploring the effect of medical education on compliance of people suffered from asthma inhaling steroids. To evaluating the impact of medical education with disease knowledge, selfmanagement and this therapy on asthma patients. Methods:Outpatients of bronchial asthma who agree with be treated with hormone and need not to be hospitalized were investigated.62 cases of people suffered from bronchial asthma were divided into the medical education group and the control group randomly. All the poeople inhaled steroids and long-actingβ2 receptor agonist(LABA) combination All these patients were investigated with a questionnaire ahout knowledge of asthma Medical education(28 cases) group was given an education programme including basic mechanisms of asthma, cause and trigger, medications, self-management plan,et al and control group(34 cases) was given routine treatment without specific education programme. Two groups were observed for 12 weeks. After 12 weeks, the patients responded to the questionnaire again and the status of asthmatic knowledge and compliance to inhaled corticosteroids were evaluated. And the inhaling steroids compliance and lung function were compared. We had observed the relationship between inhaling steroids compliance and lung function.improvementResults:The people suffered from asthma inhaling steroids compliance rate was 80.70%in the medical education group and 56.85%in the control group, there was significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05);Our data revealed that before asthma education most of the patients(93.5 %) known little about asthma mechanisms and medications although they were able to recognize asthma symptoms.Misunderstanding ofβ2 agonist and in haled steroid was rather common.Otherwise fewer patients could use the installation correctly. After 12 weeks those patients in medical education group had a better knowledge of asthma and compliance to ICSs compared to control group. Those patients in medical education group had a better lung function improvement and more ACT score. There was significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05)Conclusions:Non-adherence in outpatients of asthma were common.Medical education model can improve the inhaling steroids compliance of people suffered from asthma effectively, and significantly improve lung function,ACT score of asthmatic patients. It's worthy of promoting in the future.Inadequate knowledge of asthma and non-adherence in patients of asthma were common.Inadequate knowledge of asthma is a main obstacle in maintaining good compliance to therapy in asthma patients.Adequate knowledge of asthma can yield better lung function improvement and better ICSs compliance. At these aspect, medical education may exert positive impact.
