Objective The article discusses the calcaneus bone structural parameters of the patients who have type 2 diabetes but without insulin therapy, and the clinical value of the digital analysis of calcaneal high-resolution CT images.Material and Method The article studied 32 male patients, aged from 50-60, 16 of them are in diabetic group and another 16 are in non-diabetic group. The both groups have all been tested by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry, DXA), and their high-resolution CT (high resolution computed tomography, HRCT ) images obtained by 64-slice spiral CT scans also have been analyzed. After getting bone mineral density and the apparent parameters of trabecular, the article shows the evident difference between the tow groups by independent t-test and analyzes their relationship by person correlative. Results The 9 parameters are different between the diabetic and the contral group: BMD of the diabetic group is lower than the control group (P <0.001). Tb/RA and BM/RA have a significant difference in Central triangle (P <0.05), Tb/RA of the diabetic group is lower than of the control group. In the contrast, BM/RA is lower. There are positive correlative between BMD and Tb/RA, and negative correlative between BM/RA or EN.Conclusion Calcaneal BMD and partial trabecular apparent parameters from central triangle is different between Patients with type 2 diabetes without insulin therapy and non-diabetic group. HRCT value is very valuable in clinical study and can supply additional information.
