Objective: To observe the effect of extracorporeal membrane oxygenator on treatment of acute lung injury induced by lipopolysaccharide in rats. Methods: Forty healthy adult SD rats were randomly divided into four groups (each group containing 10 rats): control group, model group, mechanical ventilation group and ECMO group. After every group carried out corresponding treatment, each group at the same time were measured respiratory frequency, mean average arterial pressure, partial pressure of arterial oxygen, the wet/dry ratio of lung and the naked eye of lung tissue. Results: 1. Change of Respiration frequency: the respiratory frequency of model group has increased quickly after intravenous injection of lipopolysaccharide (P <0.05).Compare with other each group after 4 hours of intravenous injection of lipopolysaccharide, the frequency of model group has been significantly fast (P <0.05). 2. Change of mean average arterial pressure: Compare with the control group, the mean average arterial pressure of model group and machinery ventilation group have dropped obviously after 4 hours of intravenous injection of lipopolysaccharide (P<0.05). 3. Change of partial pressure of arterial oxygen: The partial pressure of arterial oxygen of model group has dropped obviously after 4 hours of intravenous injection of lipopolysaccharide (P<0.05). Compare with the control group, the partial pressure of arterial oxygen of model group has dropped obviously after 4 hours of intravenous injection of lipopolysaccharide (P<0.05). The partial pressure of arterial oxygen of ECMO group has risen obviously after 4 hours of intravenous injection of lipopolysaccharide (P<0.05) .Compares with other each group, the partial pressure of arterial oxygen of ECMO has risen significantly after 4 hours of intravenous injection of lipopolysaccharide (P<0.05). 4. Change of the wet/dry ratios of lung tissue : compares with the control group, the ratio of Model group has risen significantly after 4 hours of intravenous injection of lipopolysaccharide (P<0.05). 5. Change of the naked eye of lung tissue: the size of surface hemorrhage of model group is significantly bigger than other groups, and the color of lung surface is also deeper than other groups. Conclusions: The acute lung injury may make the lung permeability to advance, the respiratory frequency to increase quickly, the average arterial pressure and the artery blood oxygen partial pressure to drop. The extracorporeal membrane oxygenator treatment can decrease lung permeability, improve respiratory and circulatory function.
