ObjectiveCorrespondence analysis is used to see the relationships between population characteristics and adults' behavior risk factors and those between different factors in Wenzhou. In order to explore the applicability of correspondence analysis in behavior risk factors research, give referenced evidence on policy making and health care improvement to health administration department.Materials and methodsDepend on the sampling frame of Zhejiang provincial health surveillance system, choose Lucheng,Yueqing and Pingyang as our research areas. Multi-stage random sampling method is used, and the sample size is 750 persons in total. We use uniformed questionnaire which was designed based on China CDC's behavior risk factors questionnaire to collect information, it includes 15 parts: population characteristics, health condition and life quality, health care and health service, smoking, alcohol taking, hypertension awareness, hyperlipemia awareness, diabetes awareness, physical activities, dietetic habits, body weight control, disease surveillance, accidental injuries(traffic, pesticide, rat-killing drug), hepatitis and vaccination, STD/AIDS. Data is inputed by Epidata 3.0 software, and is analysed by SPSS 13.0.Correspondence analysis is a descriptive multiple statistical analysis method, based on singular value decomposition principal which is similar to principal component analysis, factor analysis, canonical correlation analysis and multidimensional scaling. The core is that the vector point in high dimension space project to low dimension space, thus it can reveal the correlation relationship and degree between variables. It possesses many virtues such as directness, simpleness, convenience, accurate judgement and decreasing calculating time. So it has been applied extensively in geology, ocean, meteorology, medicine and etc. Our objective is to analyze the relationship between population characteristics and adults' behavior risk factors and those between different factors in Wenzhou, further to find out whether the correspondence analysis is suitable to health service study.ResultsChronic disease related risk factors such as smoking, alcohol taking, lack of exercise, obesity and over weight are very common in Wenzhou. High traffic peccancy rate, suicide, abuse of drugs, lack of health knowledge are also exist. Correspondence analysis on smoking shows, the cognition of smoking's harm is related to age, education level, occupation, work condition, the annual family incomes, the rule of prohibiting smoking in home and working place and second-hand smoking time; correspondence analysis on taking alcohol shows, in the past 12 months, drinking time is related to age group, occupation and the annual family incomes; correspondence analysis on hypertension and hyperlipemia indicates that investigators who have awareness on those two diseases will take attention on their blood pressure and blood cholesterol level, and will take regular clinical examination; correspondence analysis on traffic safety shows, the risk behaviors such as the use of safety belt are related to age, sex, annual family incomes and occupation; correspondence analysis on hepatitis B shows, the injection of vaccine is related to the awareness of potential hepatitis B virus infection; correspondence analysis on AIDS/STD shows, the awareness of AIDS infection possibility is related to occupation and age; correspondence analysis on self-judged health condition shows, it is related to age, occupation, work condition, annual family incomes, tensity of physical exercise during working, sleep quality, fruits taking, eggs taking and taste; correspondence analysis on health examination suggests the education level is not correspond with the awareness of regular health examination.ConclusionCorrespondence analysis is more intuitionistic than Chi-square test in indicating relationships between factors, and can be used in behavior risk factor researches.
