A new addition-type silicone elastomers, ZY silicone elastomers have been researched and developed in the Fourth Military Medical University. In order to meet all kinds of clinical demands in different types and parts of maxillofacial defect, ZY silicone elastomers sort by Shore-A hardness as ZY-1 silicone elastomer(Shore-A 20), ZY-2 silicone elastomer(Shore-A 25),ZY-3 silicone elastomer(Shore-A 30). The properties of ZY silicone elastomer are equivalent to A-2186 and better than SY silicone elastomers. Most prosthetic silicone rubbers are room-temperature vulcanizing type. Generally, ZY silicone elastomers were processed with tropical box for 1h at 80℃. The use of microwave energy to cure silicone elastomer saved much time. The aim of this study evaluates the effect of processing with microwave energy to the properties of ZY silicone elastomer.1. In order to evaluate the effect of processing with microwave energy to the mechanical properties of ZY-1,ZY-2,ZY-3 silicone elastomers. In this test, three silicone elastomers were processed with tropical box for 1 hour at 80℃as control group, the other three groups processed with microwave oven at60%,40%,20%of full power for 12min,15min,20min , then the mechanical properties of ZY silicone elastomer including the tensile sthength(MPa),the elongation at break(%),the tear strength(kN/m),permanent deformation rate(3minutes) and the Shore-A hardness were separately tested. The results showed that there was no significant differences in all groups. The microwave energy is a good heat source in cured ZY silicone elastomers.2. In order to evaluate the effect of processing with microwave energy to the heat aging properties of ZY-1,ZY-2,ZY-3 silicone elastomer, in this test, three silicone elastomers were processed with tropical box for 1 hour as control group, the other three groups processed with microwave oven at60%,40%,20%of full power for 12min,15min,20min , Then the mechanical properties of ZY-1,ZY-2,ZY-3 silicone elastomer before and after heat aging, including the tensile strength(MPa),the elongation at break (%),the tear strength(KN/m), permanent deformation rate(3 minutes)and the hardness(Shore-A)were tested separately. The results indicated that the changes of all group of silicone elastomers before and after heat aging are similar. Processing ZYsilicone elastomers with microwave energy don't effect the heat aging properties.3. To study the effect of processing with microwave energy on the ozone aging properties of ZY-1,ZY-2,ZY-3 silicone elastomer, in this test, three silicone elastomers were processed with tropical box for 1 hour as control group, the other three groups processed with microwave oven at60%,40%,20%of full power for 12min,15min,20min , Then the mechanical properties of ZY-1,ZY-2,ZY-3 silicone elastomer before and after ozone aging, including the tensile strength(MPa),the elongation at break (%),the tear strength(KN/m), permanent deformation rate(3 minutes)and the hardness(Shore-A)were tested separately. The results indicated that after ozone aging the mechanical properties of ZY silicone elastomers are similar.,there are no statistical significance . Processing ZYsilicone elastomers with microwave energy is a good idea,for it saves time and cost.
