[Purpose]To evaluate the expression and distribution of transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1)and basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF)in human fetal corneas of different pregnant weeks, and to analysis the difference between these two factors. To give datas in the development of human fetal cornea.[Methods]Fourty-six human fetal eyes ranging in age from 11 to 20 pregnant weeks were carefully extracted within 30 minutes of death.Immunohisto chemistry streptavdin-biotin-complex(SABC)method was employed to detect the expression and distribution of TGF-β1 and bFGF in corneas of human fetuses. Then the correlation between TGF-β1 and bFGF was analyzed.[Results]1.TGF-β1 and bFGF were both expressed in the corneal epithelial cells with different pregnant weeks.2.TGF-β1 and bFGF were both not expressed in corneal endothelum and stroma with different pregnant weeks.3.The expression level of TGF-β1 and bFGF were decreasing with pregnant weeks(P<0.05).4.The expressional level of TGF-β1 was higher than the expressional level of bFGF in the corneal epithelial cells at the same pregnant week(P<0.05).5.The positive correlation had been found between TGF-β1 and bFGF(r=0.8037)(P<0.05).[Conclusions]1.TGF-β1 and bFGF were both expressed in the corneal epithelial cells with different pregnant weeks, which suggests TGF-β1 and bFGF may have some effect in the development of human corneal epithelium.2.TGF-β1 and bFGF were both not expressed in corneal endothelum and stroma with different pregnant weeks.3.The expression level of TGF-β1 and bFGF were both decreasing with pregnant weeks.4.The expressional level of TGF-β1 was higher than the expressional level of bFGF in the corneal epithelial cells at the same pregnant week.5.TGF-β1 and bFGF have a positive correlation in the development of human corneal epithelium.
