Objictive:To investigate the expression and the significance of p16 and pRb in human cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma(SCC)and Keratoacanthomas(KA),establish the relationships between the two proteins, and to determine if p16 and pRb expression are useful in the differential diagnosis of SCC and KA.Methods: Immunohistochemistry(SP) method was applied to detect the expression of p16 and pRb in 10 cases of normal skin(NS) ,36 SCC and 24 KA.Result:1.Expression of p16,pRb in NS, SCC and KA were detected in 90%,66.7%,70.8% and 0, 38.9%, 37.5% eases respectively . Signifieant difference in measures of p16 or pRb expression was identified between the NS and SCC, NS and KA(P﹤0.05); There was a signifieantly negative correlation between the expressions of p16 or pRb in KA and SCC(P>0.05).2.p16 expression in highly differentiated SCC was more than in poorly, but pRb expression in highly differentiated SCC was lower than in poorly .3.The expression of p16 and pRb were opposition in SCC and KA.Conclusion:1. The abnorm1 expressions of p16 and pRb may be related to the development and advance in SCC and KA.2. Expression of p16,pRb in SCC may be related to the differentiated of SCC.3. These findings suggest that p16 or pRb is not a useful marker to distinguish between KA and SCC, supporting the similarity between the two lesions.
