Objective: The aim of this investigation is to measure and investigate the normal anatomic structures of periorbital soft tissue in the normal young adults of Han nationality using a computer assisted photography system to provide standards for periocular plastic and aesthetic surgery.Material and methods: 102 normal young adult college students of Han nationality (53 males and 49 females) aged from 18 to 25 years in Changsha were randomly selected. Standard digital images of the subjects were taken using a Cannon Power Shot S3 IS camera and then assessed using Image-Pro Plus 6.0 software (Media Cybernetics, Silver Spring, MD, USA). The linear and angular items of anatomic structures of periorbital soft tissue and the ratios among the concerned parts, including intercanthal distance(ICD), outercanthal distance(OCD), palpebral fissure width(PFW), palpebral fissure height(PFH), orbit height(OH), upper lid height(ULH), lower lid height(LLH), nasal eyebrow height(NEH), central eyebrow height(CEH), temporal eyebrow height(TEH), reference line to lateral canthus(RL-LC), palpebral fissure inclination(PFI), ICD/OCD, PFH/PFW, PFH/OH, OH/PFW, ULH/OH, LLH/OH, NEH/OH, CEH/OH and TEH/OH were calculated. Data were submitted to statistical analysis. Results: Means and standard deviations of all the items had been calculated.
