| Objective:1.to investigate the prevalence of type 2 diabetes in elderly people in Gushan town , Fuzhou.2.to investigate the current status of self-management behaviors among aged type 2 diabetes patients3.to reveal the related factors of type 2 diabetes patients'self-management behaviors Subjects and Methods:1. Crossover section epidemiology survey was applied throughout random cluster sampling,4653 residents over 60 years old from 14 communities (villages) were screened and interviewed from July 2007 to November 2007 in Gushan town , Fuzhou. We actually investigated 4237 people except 416 people who were out or refused to join our survey, the response rate is 91.06%.2.Data were collected by purposeful sampling .Type 2 diabetes self-care scale was used to interviewed 326 aged diabetes patients in Gushan town , Fuzhou. The questionnaires were sent out to 326 patients, and 323 were valid, the efficient rate is 99.1%.3. EpiData3.0 software was used to input data and correct mistakes. SPSS 11.0 was used to analysis data.Result:1. The prevalence of aged type 2 diabetes was 11.2%. The prevalence of diabetes varied significantly between urban and rural (urban: 14.63%, rural: 9.29%,χ2=28.00, P<0.01).The prevalence was also different among below aspects: age, profession, monthly income, family history,.concentric obesity.2. The average score and index scoring of total scale was 85.54 and 65.80%.There was different among 6 sub-scales'index scoring. In descending order of sub-scale indexes was medicine taking, diet control, food care, regular exercise, hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia dealing, blood glucose monitoring.3. The related factors of self-management:Patients lived in urban had higher total self-management level than rural patients;Patients who were female or lived in urban or whose disease course was 1-5 had higher diet management level than others. Age was the related factor of exercise management: the level was increasing with aging.Patients who lived in community had higher blood glucose level than rural. Patients whose education was high had higher food care level than patients with lower education.Conclusion:1. Gushan town is a typical integration of urban and rural areas. The prevalence of aged type 2 diabetes is high and different between urban and rural. It is also different among different age, education, profession, monthly income.2. Aged type 2 diabetes patients have low self-management level which is affected by many factors and need to be improved.3. Nurses should actively develop community diabetes self-management education to raise patients'subjective motility and make them join disease management so as to raise therapeutic efficacy. |
