There are four parts in this study. The first part is to determine the applied area of clinical pathway and construct the system of operating clinical pathway. The object is the children after the radical correction of Tetralogy of Fallot in ICU. 33 children after the operation from January, 2006 to December, 2006 were recruited to the control group, who conformed to the including and excluding standards. Then the standard system which includes 6 criteria was determined. And the researcher identified the staff of clinical pathway and their position and responsibilities. The second part is to design the clinical pathway. Through reviewing related cases and consulting recent documents, we formulated preliminary clinical pathway. After inquiring and consulting the experts, the clinical pathway was determined finally. The third part is to put the clinical pathway into practice. The clinical pathway was applied to 34 children after the radical correction of Tetralogy of Fallot from May, 2007 to December, 2007, who conformed to the including and excluding standards. Among them 3 cases were excluded for having serious complications. The forth part is to evaluate the effect of clinical pathway. There was significant difference between two groups in the time of hospitalization, the medical cost, the time of pulling out of some traumatic intubation, the time of first defecation after operation, the durative time of mechanical ventilation and the blood gas analysis( P<0.05).The difference in ICU time and the incidence rate of complication was not significant (P>0.05) .The results showed that the application of clinical pathway to children after the radical correction of Tetralogy of Fallot in ICU is feasible and effective.
