Objective:To study the role of TGF-β1 in the occurrence and development of renal ischemia-reperfusion injury .Methods : To quantitatively measure the serum TGF-β1 level in 30 renal ischemia-reperfusion injury patients and 16 healthy adults with ELISA technique. The patients group (30) was divided into 2 groups, including: group A(18,GFR recovered in 7 days) and group B(12,GFR not recovered in 7 days),while the 16 healthy adults as the normal group.Results:1. The concentration of TGF-β1 in serum in renal ischemia-reperfusion injury patients was significantly higher than that in the normal group ( P < 0. 005). The concentration of GFR in all patients was lower than in controls ( P < 0.05) . 2. For all patients, there were a significant negative relation between the TGF-β1 and GFR level (A: r = - 0.989 , P < 0. 05)( B:r = - 0.962,P < 0. 05) . 3. The time when the concentration of TGF-β1 in serum in group A arrived its highest level was earlier than that of in serum in group B.Conclusions:1. The results suggest that expression of serum transforming growth factor-β1 appears to be up following the time of injury after ischemia-reperfusion in renal ischemia-reperfusion injury, and there was a significant negative relation between the TGF-β1 and GFR level. 2. transforming growth factor-β1 plays an important role in renal self-repair after ischemia-reperfusion injury in human. 3. Applying exogenous transforming factor-β1 to improve contents of transforming factor-β1 in serum in early ischemia-reperfusion process may decrease ischemia- reperfusion injury to protect renal.
