| Objective: To investigate the method of establishing a chronic atrial fibrillation model with long-term rapid atrial stimulation(1 000 bpm) on left and right atrium,which was performed in rabbits.Then make a comparison between these methods.Methods:30 healthy adult rabbits were randomly divided into 3 groups:â‘ control group(n=10):pacemaker was implanted on the epicardium of left and right atrium but stimulation wasn't given;â‘¡right atrium experimental group(n=10):pacemaker was implanted on the epicardium of right atrium and stimulation was given;â‘¢left atrium experimental group(n=10):pacemaker was implanted on the epicardium of left atrium and stimulation was given.Another pacemaker were implanted on ectopectoralis both in every groups.Applied wire to connect pacemaker with electronic stimulator,which was linked to voltage-regulated power supply(VRPS) to composed a completed electronical circle.Electrocardiogram(ECG) was continuously monitored for 31 days and recorded on postoperative day 3,6,9,12,15,19,23,27 and 31. Results: Surgical operations were accomplished in every groups. There was no atrial fibrillation occurred in control group.Atrial fibrillation occurred both in second and third group.On the third day after operation,atrial fibrillation was developed in 2 rabbits(20%);On the 6th day after operation,atrial fibrillation was developed in 6 rabbits(60%);On the 12th day after operation,atrial fibrillation was developed in 7 rabbits(70%) and sustained till to the 25-30th day after operation(P<0.01).The rest rabbits in second and third groups showed no atrial fibrillation occurrence. The ventricular rate of atrial fibrillation was fast initially(P<0.05) and decreased gradually later(P<0.05).Conclusion: Long-term rapid left or right atrial stimulation both is the effective method in the establishment of chronic atrial fibrillation model in rabbits.
