Aim To approach the clinical feature, diagnosis, pathologic, immunohistochemical and their relationship with the malignant degree of gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GIST).Methods Retrospectively the 59 GIST patients treated in the first auxiliary hospital of guangxi medical university from 2003 Jan to 2007 May.Collecting there indicatrix of sexuality, age, nation, clinical situation, gross pathologic of the tumor, immunohistochemical and so on,and then analyze their relationship with the maglinant degree of GIST.Results The mean age of these patients was 52.8 years, and 81.35%of them>40years old.The common clinical situation were anaemia(61.02%),region indisposition(59.32%),gastrointestinal bleeding(35.59%),palpable rnass(27.12%)and.The origin of the tumors were:29of stomach(49.15%),19 of small intestine(32.20%),6 of large intestine, while 3(5.08%)of mesenterium and 2(3.39%)of abdominal cavity.Tumor size:1.5cm~30cm,43(72.88%)of them>5cm.34(57.63%)of the tumors had an irregularity profile, while 25 tumors had an ulcer at there membrana mucosa. The immunohistochemical staining positive rates of CD117 and CD34 were 83.05%and 71.19%respectively.After statistical comparison, the irregularity of tumor outline form is related to the malignant degree of GIST.Conclusions GIST are the most common primary mesenchymal tumours of the gastrointestinal tract. This series of tumors showed predilection to older adults, and the most common origin is stomach. There biologic behavior is not well defined. At present, the most reliable factors that related to the malignant degree of GIST are size and mitotic index.According to our finding the irregularity of tumor outline form is related to the malignant degree of GIST as well.
