This dissertation is divided into two parts. The first part is GC-MS research of three traditional Chinese compound prescriptions in "treatise on febrile and miscellaneous diseases". The main objective is to reveal the chemical changes of constituents during the decoction. The second part is the synthetic research of 1, 2, 3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives.Traditional Chinese compound prescription is made up of many individual herbaldrugs according to traditional Chinese medical theory. The curative constituents are not simply summation of chemical constituents of indivual herbal drugs togather. There are some interactions among the chemical constituents of individual herbal drugs during the decoction. Three compound prescriptions in "treatise on febrile and miscellaneous diseases" were studied by GC-MS. The results indicated that some new constituents created and some disappeared during the decoction. The concentration of some constituents was also changed during the decoction. The 1, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives show potent activity against arrhythmia. It can be used as lead compound for the modification. The L-dopa and aldehydes were used as starting materials to synthesize 1, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives. The method was simple, and the yield was high. Nine compounds were prepared, seven of which were new compoumds.
