Objective To study knowledge related to AIDS,consciousness of condom use and condom use among women who had been married and identify factors associated with them.Methods Married women aged below 50 years from local area were interviewed using a questionnaire by multi-stage stratified sampling method and qualitative analyze.Result(1)More than 90%of informants gave correct answers to the question about the rout of HIV/AIDS transmission through sexual intercourse,blood transfusion and from mother to baby.About one in third informants gave wrong answers to the question whether eating together,handshake and share labor tools transmit HIV / AIDS. Especially for the question whether mosquite bite and swimming in one natatorium transmit HIV/AIDS,the wrong rates respectively is 86.6%and 64.7%(2)18.3%of the 382 married women had ever put forward to use condom,among which could persuade spouse to use it is account for 77.1%.46.1%of married women had ever used condom and 15.7% had ever used condom in the last year,but only 3.4%use it consistently,there was a significant association between consciousness of condom use and condom use(eg,ever use, use in a recent year,use consistendy).results showed that women who are graduates of senior high school or above,perceived risk to HIV infection,perceived complete protection using condoms and women who don't feel their husband unhappy if use condom were more likely to have consciousness of condom use.This study also showed that age,education,perceived risk to HIV infection,perceived complete protection using condoms,medium decision making power were predictors of condom use in a recent year.Conclution(1)It was lack of knowledge on HIV/AIDS in rural women,and it is important to publicize and spread the knowledge on HIV/AIDS by media among women foe prevention and control of HIV/AIDS(2)Although a small proportion of participants had consciousness of condom use,most of which could persuade their husband to use once they put fortoward.Hence,preventions strategies based on increasing consciousness of condom use may be sufficient to improve condom use.
