Purpose To study gastrointestinal dynamic and its influence on the absorption of exogenous oxalate.Method To compare the excretion of oxalate among 12 healthy adults who had spinach, with and without probanthine intake. Results Regardless of probanthine intake, the quantity of 8 hourly urine oxalic acid excretion was different. There was significant difference in the 24 hours oxalate excretion between those with probanthine intake and the non probanthine intake(p<0.05). Conclusion The exogenous oxalic acid is mainly absorbed in the upper gastrointestinal tract. The stomach is involve in the oxalic acid absorption. Lowering of gastrointestinal dynamics, causes hyperoxaluria which can be a potential factor among urinary calculus patients.
