Objective:To observe the Effect of hyperbaric oxygen on Choline Acetyltransferase Neurons and congnitive dysfunction in rats with traumatic brain injury. Methods:â‘ The traumatic brain injury model was established by use of Feeney'method in rats. Sixty male rats were recruited in this study and randomly divided into 3 groups: a sham-operation group (group A), a traumatic brain injury group (group B), and a traumatic brain injury +HBO group (group C). Then the learning and memory of group A, B and C were tested by Morris water maze 24 days after been made model. The samples of others rats'brain were taken to do the choline-acetyltransferase (ChAT) immunohistochemical staining and were examined under light microscope. Result:Rats in group C used less time than rats in group B in the latency of escape at the same time. In the spatial probe test, the times across the original platform of the group C were more than that of the group B. the ChAT-positive fibers in hippocampus almost vanished after traumatic brain injury and the positive fiber were markedly increased after HBO.Conclusions:HBO treatment can activate neurons in hippocampus and inhibit regression of cholinergic neurons, which may be one of the mechanisms of improvement of the learning ability of injuried rats by HBO. HBO treatment can effectively improve the congnitive dysfunction after traumatic brain injury.
