Objective: In order to investigate the influence of intracerebral microbleeds(IMBs) on stroke ,we examined the IMBs using T2*-weighted gradient echo MRI(GRE -T2* MRI) , compared the frequency and location of IMBs in different group , and studied the association between IMBs and vascular factors of stroke. Methods: 100 patients with acute stroke, were divided into 2 groups by MRI examination: Ischemic group(n=50) or Hemorrhagic group(n=50). Compared with the cohort of non-stroke patients in the same period who were older than 50 years(n=30).All the patients were examined with T1WI,T2WI and GRE -T2* MRI routinely. We recorded the freqyency, location, number of IMBs and stroke location, leukoaraiosis. We also collected the clinical date such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, heperlipemia, previous stroke history for stroke patients. Statistical analysis was performed with the Statistical Package of Social Sciences(SPSS.inc).Result: IMBs were observed in all the three groups, and the frequency of IMBs were 76% in hemorrhagic group,36% in ischemic group and 10% in control group. Most of IMBs in ischemic and control group were mild and in hemorrhagic group were moderate or severe. IMBs were more prevalent with hypertension(p<0.01) and correlated with stroke history(p<0.05). There was no significant relationships demonstrated between IMBs and diabetes mellitus and hyperlipemia(p>0.05). IMBs were correlated with leukoaraiosis (p<0.01) .The correlation between stroke location and IMBs predilection site in hemorrhagic group is significant higher than ischemic group. Conclusion: It was revealed that the frequency of IMBs were so high in stroke patiente, especially in hemorrhagic stroke, and it has close correlation with hypertension and stroke history. The results suggest that IMBs have a significant role on primary intracerebral hemorrhage and hemorrhagic transform of ischemic stroke. The recognition on IMBs may improve the recognition on treatment of stroke patients.
