| Objective To investigate the relationship between the size of adenoids and secretory otitis media, chronic sinusitis and snoring. To explore the clinical efficacy of adenoidectomy in treating these diseases. Methods A retrospective study was conducted to analyze the clinical features, auxiliary examination and prognosis of 113 children in hospital who underwent adenoidectomy to treat secretory otitis media, chronic sinusitis or snoring. Evaluate: the effect about the degree of adenoids hypertrophy resulted in the descendent of eustachian tube function; the effect about the degree of adenoids hypertrophy resulted in the descendent of hearing; the difference of grades of composite entity among secretory otitis media, chronic sinusitis and snoring; the difference of grades of adenoids hypertrophy between single entity and composite entity; the effects of adenoidectomy in the treatment of secretory otitis media, chronic sinusitis and snoring in children. Results the pattern of tympanic press and the degree of descendent hearing were distinct difference in two groups. The distribution of patients by adenoid size in secretory otitis media, chronic sinusitis and snoring groups were the same. The grades of adenoids hypertrophy between single entity and composite entity were distinct difference in two groups. The conditions of the 113 children were marked improved after the removal of hypertrophic adenoids. Conclusions The results suggested that there was a positive correlation among the grades of adenoids hypertrophy , the descendent hearing ,the descendent degree of eustachian tube function and the incidence of composite entity . The removal of hypertrophic adenoids is a safe and effective method for treating pediatric secretory otitis media, chronic sinusitis and snoring. After finding child is adenoids hypertrophy, we should consummate examination about secretory otitis media, chronic sinusitis and snoring at the same time to avoid missed diagnosis and delay pathogenetic condition. |
