Objective To investigate related factors of vascular dementia(VD). Methods This study was conducted among the residents aged 50 years or over in the Baishi B-ridge community in Urumqi, Changji city, Bo state,Yanqi county in Xinjiang province, adopting a multi-stage stratified random cluster sampling approaches from Xinjiang Uygursand Hans Region(8284), the number of Uygurs is 4688, which concludies male and female people 2324 and 2336; the number of Hans is 3596 which concludies male and female people 1593 and 2004. Each examinee was asked for the age, nationality, date of birth, smoking history, drinking history and other general information. Their body height, body mass, abdominal circumference and blood pressure were measured, and each examinee was interviewed by facing to facing with the Mini Mental State Examination(MMSE)and selected who had cognitive impairment, and then assessed wi-th a battery of neuropsycholgical tests. The clinical diagnosis on vascular dementia was based upon the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and Ass-ociation International pour la Recherche et l'Enseignement en Neurosciences criteria (NINDS-AIREN).Finally, 89 VD cases were diagnosed by standard of NINCDS-AIR-EN and 89 cases were selected.Univariate and multivariate analysis were conductedu-sing Logistic regression mode . Results In univariate analysis, the relationship between VD and smocking history, alcohol history, hypertention, the glucose metabolization disorder, total cholesterol (TC) rise, triglyceridemia (TG) rise, body mess index, beleycircumference were statistically significant (P<0.05). Multivariate analysis showed thathypertention (OR=4.52, 95% CI: 2.04~9.98), the glucose metabolizationdisorder (OR=3.29, 95% CI: 1.55~6.98), smocking history increased (OR= 2.86, 95% CI: 1.28~6.43), triglyceridemia(TG) rise (OR=2.40, 95% CI: 1.14~5.08), total cholesterol (TC) rise (OR=2.31, 95% CI: 1.08~4.91) were identified as risk factors of VD. Conclusion The study demonst-rated that hypertention, the glucose metabolization disorder, smocking history,triglycer-idemia rise, total cholesterol rise are risk factors for VD.
