The issue of health has become one of the hottest topics in academic fields. However, most existing researches on this issue usually use the perspective of economics, history and social policy, rather than medical sociology. This is one of deficiencies which this paper attempts to make up.Therefore, this research focus on the concepts, actions and strategies of villagers themselves and their family members refers to health and illness, which we need to describe and interpret by the perspective and theories of medical sociology. Another difference between this paper from other researches is we gather our interview data in the Village of Shaoxing by qualitative research methods (mainly containing in-depth interview and focus group).According to these data, we discover that nowadays villagers'"concept of health"is different from their fathers and themselves'before Reform and Opening Up, when we call"suffering time"in this paper. We name this"concept of health"as villagers'"new concept of health".This"new concept of health"mainly includes two points:"producing"health and"recovering"health. Besides describing the contents and portraits of"new concept of health", we also analyze ways and driving force of formation of"new concept of health". We regard economic development as the main force rather than the power of state. So there are two major conclusions. One is people's concept and behavior about health and illness transform during modernization indeed. The other is"new concept of health"is still in transformation, namely, new and old model exist side by side.
