This paper bases on the study of the fungistasic activity by Stellera chamaejasme against Trichophyton mentagrophyte and the ultrastructure alternations, and then speculates the antifungal mechanism.T. mentagrophyte was cultured with the agar mixing method and liquid diluting method for antifungal test; the minimal inhibitory concentration and the minimal fatal concentration were test; the effect to the active fungal cells of T. mentagrophyte in the process of Stellera chamaejasme L. was test; the effect to the spore growing of T. mentagrophyte in the process of Stellera chamaejasme L. was test; the alternation of T. mentagrophyte in the process of Stellera chamaejasme L. was studied by optical microscope; the ultrastructure of T. mentagrophyte in the process of Stellera chamaejasme L. was studied by transmission electron microscope (TEM).It' s shown that Stellera chamaejasme L. has obvious activity on T. mentagrophyte. The effective concentration (EC50) was 0. 3021mg·mL-1, the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) was 0. 3125mg·mL-1, and the minimal fatal concentration (MFC) was 0. 625mg·mL-1.Observation under TEM showed obvious morphological changes in the hyphens of T. mentagrophyte. The cell wall became thicker and rougher. There was more vacuole in the cell. And no clear and formed Mt or other organelle could be observed. It's speculated that the active ingredients affect the protein inside the fungal cell, destroy the cytoplasm and organelle, slow down the development and even break it down, and inhibit the fungal cell from growing and developing in the end.Stellera chamaejasme L. was found to possess intense activity on T. mentagrophyte, which makes Stellera chamaejasme L. has practical potent of substituting anti-dermatophytic drugs.
