Objective:To observe the improvement effects of the fuzhenghuatanhuoxue prescription on the metabolism pathway of the insulin-like growth factor 1 and insulin resistance in RI patients and model rats, and discuss the possible mechanism of action and the relationship of IGF-I with RI.Methods:Part I. Clinical research. Sixty diabetic patients were divided into two groups randomly. The experimental group for the dimethyl biguanide plus fuzhenghuatanhuoxue prescription, and the control group for dimethyl biguanide only. The dose of dimethyl biguanide was regulate by blood glucose. The whole course of treatment was two months. The level of FBG, FLNS, TC, TG, HBAIC, IGF-I, ECG, ISI, IR, and the function of renal and liver were tested before and after therapy. Part II. Experimental research. The IR rat model was created by STZ injection and high fat diet. Six groups were divided to test the influence of the above items.Results:The fuzhenghuatanhuoxue prescription can decrease FBG and HBAIC level in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients and model rats as well as the FINS level, blood fat and insulin resistance index, and enhance the IGF-I concentration and insulin sensitive index.Conclusion:The fuzhenghuatanhuoxue prescription has the role of decrease blood glucose and blood fat, increase IGF-I concentration, improve insulin resistance, and prevent the diabetic complication. The effectiveness has multiple pathways, target points and elements. The IGF-I level can reflect the severity of insulin resistance, and has the characteristics to be the marker of insulin resistance syndrome. Lower IGF-I concentration can increase the risk of metabolism syndrome.
