Objective: To investinate the short-term effects of Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)on recurrent Cervical Cancer in pelvis. Methods: 17 patients with recurrent cervical cancer were treated by IMRT. Recurrent group after irradiation: the doses of IMRT for relapse at pelvic were were 20-40 Gy, chosen according to recurrent time and range. Recurrent group after operation:conventionally radiate 40 to 45 GY for pelvis and IMRT 25-35GY. Results: 1) In 15 Of 17 patients suffering from pain, there were11 (73.3%) complete pain relief response and 4 (26.7%)partial respones, for an overall response rate of 100%.2) tumor regression: In all 17. patients ,there were 5 patients achieved CR, 8 patients achieved PR and overall response rate was 76.5%. Response duration: Median duration was 5 months and mean duration was 11.3 months with range 3-34. months: there was 8 patients tumor progress after response to treatment. 3)survival:up to date, 7 patients survived more than 1 year(41.1%),5 patients survived more than 2 year (29.4%) and 4 patients survived 34 months( 23.5%) 4)Complications: Less than grade II haematologic toxicity occurred in 35.3% (6 patients). There was 5.8% gastrointestinal toxicity (1 patients) in the cases and 1 patient (5.8%) developed to grade II late bladder toxicity (chronic bleeding). Conclusion: Intensity modulated radiation therapy(IMRT)on recurrent Cervical Cancer in pelvis get a good effect especially for the recurrent group after operation. Patients with recurrence after definitive radiotherapy located within pelvis have no CR and the short-term effects is not good.
