Objective: To evaluate the frequency of microdeletions in the long arm of Y chromosome of idiopathic infertile males with azoopermia and oligospermia in Xinjiang province in China and to investigate the difference between two nations to Y microdele-tion frequencies. Methods: According to the sequence of sequence-tagged sits (STS) AZFa, AZFb, AZFc and AZFd, 4 of the azoospermic factor regiongs in Y chromosome long-term supplied by GenBank, 8 sets of primers were synthesized. The Y microdeletions in AZF regions were screened by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in 85 idiopathic cases of azoospermia and oligospermia between two nations. Results: The microdeletions of AZF was found in 36 of 85 patiens with idiopathic azoospermic. Most of those patients had several sits deletions. There is not significant difference between two nations in the frequency of Y chromosome deletions and the rate of several sits combined deletions. Conclusion: There is not significant difference variability in the rate of microdeletions in azoospermia factor and the rate of several sits combined deletions on Y chromosome between nations. PCR amplification of AZF locus is useful for the diagnosis of microdeletions in the Y chromosome.
